My dearest Diane

It was today's workout of 21-15-9 dead lifts and handstand push ups (HSPU). I've found there are all kinds of "Rx's" the ladies use, like 155, 165, and 185lbs. I chose the internet stalking easy way out and went with what I saw on the main site. What did I see? I saw some bad ass ladies hitting the workout at the full weight, truly as prescribed. I also saw some other bad ass ladies hitting the workout at 185. So that's what I went with that. Why? The weight is commonly used as the suggested ladies' weight for dead lifts in other Crossfit workouts and I'm no Kristan. Eight minutes, fourteen seconds later, I knew it was a good choice.

I'm jotting down times, feelings, feedings, etc. Then I thought, "hey jackass, what about form?" Not on the lift, but HSPUs. What I commonly forget to note is body positioning. What are the points of contact (heels, butt, shoulders), was there any wall climbing with the feet (no, sir), how many times did I c…

I'm Making Myself...Me

Let me get the serious stuff out of the way - SpeedEndurance.com! Try it, you'll like it. Honestly. At least the last few posts on acceleration. Even the former track athletes out there can use a refresher on training acceleration. They're good, short reads, so give them a viewing. Acceleration and speed are important aspects to most training programs. You Crossfit? You need this stuff. You run? You need this stuff. You lift? You need this stuff. I NEED this stuff.

Now onto me! I just got done with a workout this morning. Those of you in Crossfit land might have heard of her - Fran! Let me tell you about my love/hate relationship with Fran. LOVE that she's done in a relatively short time. HATE the fact I struggle with getting her done faster. I am to the point where 30kg thrusters don't really hurt anymore. Pull ups are not the problem they used to be. I'm not perfect, but I'm certainly not struggling with the individual components of the Fran workout. I'm …

Max Pain

Last week was max week as part of our two-a-day workouts. I was popped before the week ended, but managed to scrape lifts out until Sunday. I can't say they were my best, but it was all I had to give. Good news was that everything increased. I reached personal goals on shoulder press and dead lift. I'm pretty happy with that. Although the soreness and stiffness has slowly left, I'm still recovering from the tired feeling.

The diet of last week did not fare so well. The week started out wonderfully (yea). Then a drill day hit (boo). And on that drill day was a going away at Itz! (hissssssss). Talk about lack of quality control in the food department. The vegetables were dried out, likely from old age. The dressing looked like it had been there for awhile too. So, I didn't eat much as compared to what I usually scarf down my pie hole. How did that play out? A big fat revenge of the hungry freakin tummy at dinner. There's no escaping your body's need for food. How…

Take that shoulders!

New shoulder press max! Moved from 50kg up to 54kg (119 lbs). I'm pretty happy with that. Persistent work in the gym finally pays off. I've been waiting quite awhile for a better shoulder press max. Other lifts have been shooting up except my shoulder press, so you could imagine my joy at any amount over 50kg. It isn't quite what I think I'm capable of, but it is far closer than where I was before. I'll take it.

Making a List. Checking it Twice?

No double checking this list. It is only a brain hurl of things I think I want to do sooner or later (think near to mid-term future). I am on a short hiatus from "tings" right now, but want to hit the ground running when I'm ready. As much as I love the thrill of last minute ventures, well planned ideas always have a place in my heart and lifestyle. Plus, I enjoy the training aspect of events. So here's a list and maybe a reason why I think I should do things:

1. Run another 5k - free shirts, little training, charity

2. Xterra tri (sport/sprint length) - last one was horrible tough, but fun

3. Road tri (sprint or oly distance)  surprisingly fun

4. Be a PR girl! - Denver area fitness, figure, and bikini team, they're fun and workout a lot (like me)

5. NPC figure contest - see #4, it only makes sense to compete when you're on a team

6. Crossfit Games - Grueling and fun, good energy, plus I get to see the people I facebook stalk

7. Earn more money - I seriously n…

Struggle. Word!

Today's WOD in the land of Crossfit Soco was Seven. It was dedicated to the seven CIA agents killed in Afghanistan on December 30, 2009. It HURT. It reacquainted me with the term "struggle." We're very tight on equipment at our gym because the classes keep getting larger. The weights were scaled so everyone could have a barbell. I'm cool with that. I should have gone heavier on the deadlifts, but the heavy thrusters were enough. Here's what I did:

7 Rounds:
7 HSPUs
7 Thrusters @ 50kg
7 Knees to elbow
7 Deadlifts @ 50kg
7 Burpees
7 Kettle bell swings @ 16kg
7 Pull ups

It's a hero WOD. I hate scaling because I don't do these for myself. I do them for the people they are meant to memorialize, there should be some pain. Someone has sacrificed life. The least I can do is show some appreciation the best way I can. I'm not sure what goes through everyone's head, but a hero WOD is my way of saying "Here's my heart. Here's my soul. Here is…

How to Eat Paleo in Kauai

...just go and be :P

Eating Paleo during our honeymoon in Hawaii was no problem at all. I owe a deep thanks to Kauai for making it easy to stay somewhat on track with my diet. Meat was delicious, fruit and veggies were awesome. If you know me, you know I love fruit. It's been my bane as far as body composition is concerned. I have problems stopping at just one piece of fruit. However, in Hawaii it was slightly different. The local fruit was so potent with flavor that I was satisfied with just a thin, small slice of pineapple. What?! Yeah, srlsy. I couldn't believe it either. Just a wee bit of fruit was all I needed? I used to eat cans of pineapple in a day.

This makes me wonder -is it really the quantity we desire or the quality. I'm pretty sure I don't want to overeat on fruit in Colorado. What I want is to eat to a certain level of satisfaction. I am expecting a particular flavor from my fruit and eat until I feel that flavor has been met. When you ship something acr…
